Bon Voyage Breakfast

A couple of weeks ago, some friends and I had the opportunity to experience the Bon Voyage character breakfast at Trattoria al Forno, located at The Boardwalk. This relatively new character meal features some rare and beloved characters, namely Prince Eric and Flynn Ryder, along with their respective princesses, Ariel and Rapunzel.

We arrived for our reservation and were seated promptly. We were given cards with the character signatures pre-printed. However, we were told they would still sign autographs for us. I did not have anything for them to sign, so our hostess brought us these adorable maps for them to sign.

The meal is Prix Fixe and includes a pastry basket, cup of fruit and choice of entree and beverages (hot and cold). We ordered coffee and orange juice (sadly, no special juice like at O'Hana, BOMA and Tusker House).

The pastry selections were served in Rapunzel's signature frying pan, which was a cute touch. These were mostly standard Disney selections, with the exception of the Tangled sun design. That one was light, flaky and buttery. The rest were just okay.

The menu selections were somewhat limited, though we found you could make some substitutions. My dining companion wanted Mickey waffles and was able to order pancakes and substitute the waffles instead. She got three waffles on her plate.

I ordered the Golden Frittata (with Prosciutto, peppers, scallions and romano) and our other friend thought she ordered scrambled eggs. However, when the eggs arrived, they were the Tangled Eggs (with fresh mozzarella, and tomato-basil), not just plain scrambled. So be sure you are clear when you order.

Unfortunately, the entrees were not very good. My frittata was overcooked and kind of dry. The potatoes were mushy as well. Overall, it was disappointing.

Throughout the meal, the characters made the rounds and were so much fun to meet and interact with. They also led the children in parades around the dining room.

Overall, this meal would be good for anyone wanting to meet Prince Eric and Flynn Ryder or for families staying in the EPCOT resort area (Beach Club, Yacht Club, Boardwalk or Swan/Dolphin Resorts). I would not recommend making a special trip from another resort for this experience unless the characters were very important to you.
