As today is the anniversary of the release of classic Disney movie "Dumbo," I thought it would be a great day to give a tip to our readers on souvenir shopping. There are so many things you could buy and collect at Walt Disney World (or just as a Disney fan) that it can be overwhelming. Obviously, you can't buy it all. For one thing, there's the budget to consider. Plus, where would you put it all? I decided a few years ago that focus was the key.
When I visit Disney World now, I focus on one character in particular (plus a couple of items that I will also pick up.) He's such a sweet character - up against the odds, his little heart broken, he learns to believe in himself and, with the help of a friend, he finds that he can SOAR! What a great message! Since I adore elephants and the story of Dumbo is so compelling, I try to find Dumbo items in the parks.
Here are some of my Dumbo souvenirs that I have collected over the years.
Pictured top, left to right: Dumbo Tsum Tsum set; Dooney & Bourke bag; Dumbo Magic Band. Pictured bottom, left to right: Thank you card from Walt Disney World featuring a Dumbo illustration; Dumbo tea pot; Dumbo Christmas ornament.
Not pictured are Dumbo pins, more stuffed animals and shirts.
Truly, I love a lot of Disney characters. Goofy and Pluto are always up there among my favorites, along with Minnie Mouse and Daisy Duck. I like seeing rare characters too. I met Pinocchio and Pocahontas a few years ago. We even met Meeko! However, I have found that it's best to just focus on one character for collecting purposes. There are other ways to limit your souvenir shopping, but this one works for me!
