Cruise of the Month: Castaway Cay

Updated: Jan 10, 2020

Wouldn’t you like to just disappear for a little while onto a private island in the beautiful Caribbean surrounded by blue water, palm trees, white sand, and lots of sunshine? Well when you take a cruise on a Disney Cruise Line, you can do just that! Many itineraries included Disney’s private island, Castaway Cay (pronounced key.)

Nestled amongst the many islands of the Bahamas, Castaway Cay is a little taste of paradise. There is something for everyone to do, even the little ones, or even choose to do nothing. This little island was created so the ship may pull right up to the dock, so guests do not have to tender to get to land. You can just walk right off the ship onto the island.

Once there, you are greeted by a tram to take you to one of the three main areas on the island which consists of 2 family beach areas and an adult only beach, Serenity Bay. Kids can enjoy Spring-a-Leak, a water play area, and Scuttle’s Cove, the island kid’s club. More adventurous swimmers can venture out to Pelican Plunge, a 2,400 square foot floating platform with 2 twisting water slides. There is even a teen hideout where your teen can escape and lounge away carefree.

Trying to escape the kids for a while (I mean spoil yourself while the kids are having fun), pop on over to Serenity Bay. Step into the clear water to soak in the sun, or lounge on the beach with a tropical drink. Don’t forget to grab your lunch at the Air Bar BBQ. Pamper yourself with a Cabana rental to even take a nap while the warm breeze blows through.

Don’t want to laze the day away on the beach soaking up the sun? Well, there are plenty of activities to choose from such as renting bikes to tour the many paths on the island, snorkeling, check out the sports beach, take a boat excursion, meet some sting rays, take a nature hike, or get a massage. The day is up to you. You may even get to meet some very special characters.

There is a little post office from which you can mail a letter or a postcard to have it post marked to remember your trip. The post office only accepts cash. However, the rest of the island is cash free. Credit cards or Disney gift cards are accepted in the gift shops on the island. You may also charge purchases to your stateroom. Castaway Cay souvenirs may only be purchased the island. So if you’re tempted to take home that cute tee or Castaway Cay towel, grab it when you see it. Soft drinks, soft serve ice cream, and lunch is included with your cruise. Tropical adult beverages are available at an additional charge.

Ready to go? Ask your Vacation Specialist about Bahamian or Eastern/Western Caribbean itineraries originating in Florida. If you just can’t get enough of Castaway Cay, Disney Cruise Line even offers “double dip” itineraries with two days at the magical island.
