Disneyland Tips and Tricks

Updated: Jan 10, 2020

Early Bird get the worm

Extra Magic Hours allow guests to enter the parks an hour before the parks open. If you are staying at a Disney Hotel you have this option daily. If you are staying at a good neighbor hotel you have this option once during your stay. You will be able to enjoy select attractions, stores, entertainment and dining. Disneyland park has Extra Magic Hours on Tuesdays, Thursday and Saturdays. California Adventure park has Extra Magic Hours on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays.

MaxPass

MaxPass allows you to make FastPasses for all rides and entertainment even the popular ones. If you have park hopper tickets you can book fastpasses for both parks on the same day. It also includes unlimited downloads of PhotoPass photos taken on rides or by PhotoPass photographers any day that you have MaxPass. You will need to download the Disneyland mobile app and link your park tickets to it to be able to use it. You can't start using it until you have entered the Park. MaxPass will cost you $15 per day per ticket, but I think it is well worth it!

Portable battery

Did you forget your portable phone battery at home? No problem, there are portable battery kiosks called Fuel Rod Stations located throughout the parks. You only pay once and once the battery runs low simply insert it back into a kiosk and get the new one at no additional cost. You can swap it as many times as you want or need. Take it home and bring it back on your next visit...yes it will still work.

Walt's Life

Have you always wondered what Walt's life was like? How cool it would have been to meet him? Well, you can kind of get an idea by taking the "Walk in Walt's Disneyland Footsteps" guided tour. You will get to explore the life of Walt Disney. They take you on a journey through his personal history and the development of The Disneyland Park. You will hear all about what inspired Walt and all the challenges he faced. Also you get to see parts of the park that aren't typically open to the public. It will end with a great meal on Main Street USA.

Splash Mountain

Have you always wanted to ride Splash Mountain but not get soaked? Well you can, did you know that Disney adjusts the water leaves on the ride based on the time of year it is? So, if you go during winter that means less water, less likely you will get soaked. Summer means, yes, that's right you will more than likely get soaked.

Fireworks

Disneyland has amazing fireworks year round that start at 9:30pm. Most people view them from Main Street USA, but there are so many other wonderful and not so crowded options. You can view them from "It's a small world", the Rivers of America and Matterhorn. If by chance there is a night time parade and you watch it, make sure that is a good view stop for the fireworks too.

California Adventure has a wonderful nighttime show called the World of Color. This dynamic show is projected onto water and highlights beloved stories from Disney and Pixar. If you want great seating, you can do one of a few things: get a World of Color dining package or get a Fastpass for it or just get there early. Make sure you check to see the time of the show as it varies.

Rides

You can ride rides from the moment the park opens until close, even if there is a wait you can still get in line. If you want to ride in the front or the back, just ask. The cast members may have you wait til the next turn but you will get to ride in front. If you don't want to wait and don't mind riding with strangers, think about hopping in the single rider line. It's typically shorter than the normal wait.
