With summer right around the corner, we are bringing this article this week and will share our remaining tips for traveling with toddlers next week. These can be especially helpful if you're traveling to Florida in the summer. Humidity is very high and the temperatures get quite high as well.
Tip #1: Know your body. Do you get overheated easily? Are you the person who would rather be inside in the air conditioning versus outside in the summer? If you said yes, then this tip is for you.
Bring with you disposable ice packs that you can punch to activate. You can put those on the back of your neck to cool the blood going to your brain and this will help you from getting overheated.
Tip #2: Plan your park times earlier in the day and in the evenings when the sun is not as strong. During the heat of the day, spend the time in your room relaxing, at the pool, or even at one of the water parks.
Tip #3: Keep in mind that as you sweat, you are losing electrolytes. Water is great to drink but you also need to replenish those electrolytes. Have some Gatorade® or Powerade® to replenish those necessary nutrients. It can also be helpful to have a banana as that has much needed potassium.
Tip #4: Always have a refillable water bottle with you. You can get ice water from the quick service restaurants and you can refill the bottle.
Tip #5: Bring cooling towels with you to put on your neck and/ or have an electric cooling fan. They have some that are handheld and some that will sit on your neck. The water misting fans they sell in the park are helpful as well.
Tip #6: In Florida, it rains almost everyday in the afternoon. It usually is a deluge of water. Usually, I like to have ponchos for when it rains but in the summer it is just too hot for a poncho. That is the best time to have an umbrella with you to stay a little dry. If you can time a ride perfectly, you could be in the ride and coming out just as the rain is stopping. You are bound to come out to some significant puddles though so bring some flip flops with you or some sandals that you can walk in without slipping.
Summer can be a lot of fun but you need to be prepared for it. Keep in mind that with schools out, summer tends to be very busy in the parks. If you are thinking of a water park day, you might want to make sure you get there early to ensure that you are able to enter as they can fill up quickly in the summer. Have fun, stay safe, and stay cool and don't forget the sunscreen!
