Halloween in Hogsmeade

Updated: Nov 14

Are you headed to Universal Orlando this month but are not feeling up for Halloween Horror Nights? Then you need to visit Hogsmeade in the Wizarding World of Harry Potter in Islands of Adventure.

Halloween Horror Nights is Universal's world famous annual Halloween event. However it's recommend for ages 13 or older and those who are not afraid of a really good scare. If you are looking for something fun and just a little spooky for the whole family then head over to Hogsmeade. And what's great about it is it's included in your park admission!

The Dark Arts at Hogwarts Castle

Each night a projection show is presented on Hogwarts castle or the attraction Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey. Starting in mid September the show is re themed to the Dark Arts featuring Dementors, Death Eaters, trolls and other dark creatures who follow the dark Lord Voldemort. It begins each night around dusk. The show is about 8-10 minutes long and repeats until the park closes.

They will line you up for the show in Hogsmeade and understanding the flow of the crowds can be important. The entrance by the Lost Continent becomes the only way in and Jurassic Park the only exit. They will use either tape or ropes to create lanes in and out. To watch the show you'll need to wait in the roped off area towards the right if you are headed towards Hogwarts. It may look crowded but don't panic. The shows are short so it goes quick. When it's time you will ushered up to the castle where you will line up for the show. Try to be towards the front of the Triwizard stage and in front of the crowd for the best view. Flight of the Hippogriff and Forbidden Journey are still open so they keep a path open to access them if you wish to still ride. Usually the later shows are less crowded but keep in mind once the show is over they will make the crowd exit thru Jurassic Park to leave the park.

Death Eaters in Hogsmeade

A pre show to the Dark Arts show are the Death Eaters. You'll see a stage between The Three Broomsticks and Honeydukes where they will do a quick two minute opening show about every 20 minutes.

After the show they roam around Hogsmeade going into shops and dueling anyone who dares so have your wands at the ready!

If you really want to impress them get a temporary dark mark tattoo. They really enjoy seeking children in their Hogwarts robes for duels while looking for Harry Potter.

We watched them for over an hour! As they cast spells you'll see smoke and light rise from buildings and even fire. And if you watch long enough you may even see them capture a poor witch or wizard for questioning.
